Are there any foods that can help slow down wrinkles on my face?
If you are over the age of 20, you are probably going to be interested in this viewer’s question. She asks, are there any foods that can help slow down wrinkles on my face? Boy, I wish I could tell you that certain foods were going to do the trick for you but unfortunately it is not a particular food. In general how nutrition can help: staying well hydrated. If you drink plenty of fluids, especially this time of year when it’s hot and you perspire without even realizing it, you need to make sure that you drink lots of fluid. So, the guideline is about 8 glasses a day. Eating foods that are rich in fluids like fruit, or vegetables are good for you for an abundance of reasons but also because they naturally contain fluids. So, having diet that is rich in fluids will give your skin the illusion of being plumped up and as healthy from the inside as you can be.
Also, just in general, a healthy diet, one that has antioxidants. Antioxidants are like little Pac men that ravage those cells that could be causing damage. So, again, beauty from the inside helps with a diet that is rich in antioxidants. Where do they come from? Fruit, vegetables, whole grains, beans, all those very healthy nuts.
All kinds of good foods but primarily the way to prevent sun damage, prevent wrinkles, is to stay out of the sun. So, staying out of the sun during peak hours, wearing sunscreen. Protecting your skin from getting those wrinkles but wrinkles are also genetic. Depending on the color of your skin, the darker you are the less likely you are to wrinkle because you have protection. The melanin that is in your skin will protect you against it. If you are fair and Irish like me, you better be wearing hats and sunscreen. It doesn’t matter what I do, I have burns from when I was a child and we didn’t know as much about sunscreen that caused premature aging and damages.
So, if you want to minimize those wrinkles start by protecting your skin. Stay out of the sun during those peak hours. Hydration is good. Being at a healthy weight is also a good thing because if you lose too much weight, it can start to get a little gaunt and it makes you look older. So, having skin that’s plumped up, sometimes a few extra pounds is good in terms of looking well. So, talk to your dermatologist about other topical things you can do that can help reduce those fine lines but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure here.
