Hi, I’m Rory Sutherland. When I’m training, nutrition plays an important role in my health and my performance. But good eating is for everyone. Eating well can make you feel good and cut your risk of diseases. You don’t even need a dietician to put together nutritious meals.
Before you head off to the refrigerator for your next snack, we’ve got a few tips to keep in mind.

Is it complicated to maintain a healthy diet?
[Rory Sutherland]
No, it’s actually pretty simple to eat right. Think about the four food groups and try to pick the healthiest foods from each. Fruits and vegetables, meat – go for lean cuts, or fish and chicken, nuts – nuts are considered a protein, but since they are high in fat and calorie-dense, eat them in moderations, and dairy – when it comes to meat and dairy, go for lean and low-fat.

What’s the rundown on carbs? Are they good or bad?
[Rory Sutherland]
Carbohydrates keep you moving by carrying glucose, which your body breaks down into energy. To get your carbs, each a rainbow of different fruits and vegetables and limit certain breads, cereals and grains.

Why is water important?
[Rory Sutherland]
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Water makes up 60 percent of your body weight, so it’s really important to stay hydrated. It helps flush toxins out of your system. Water regulates your body temperature. It also carries nutrients to your cells while protecting your joints and cushioning your spinal cord.
Consult your doctor before entering into any fitness or nutrition routine.
