Interviewer: When was the last time you had a preventive exam? Man #1: What year is it? Interviewer: 2011. Man #1: Ahhh, 1995. Man #2: 12 months. Interviewer: That was the last time you had one? Man #2: Yeah. Man #3: I have no idea. I haven’t been to the doctor for 15 years. Woman #1: I’m going to say 2 years ago. Interviewer: When was the last time you had a preventive exam? Woman #2: [no response] Interviewer: When was the last time you had a doctor checkup? Woman #2: I’m actually from the UK. Interviewer: When was the last time you had a preventive exam? Man #4: Probably about a year and a half ago. Interviewer: How often do you think you should have one? Man #4: Once a year. [Bell rings] Interviewer: Once a year? Man #4: Mmhmm. At my age? It depends on your age. Interviewer: Say 50. You can’t be a day over 40. Man #4: What a guy. What are you running for office? You get my vote! Interviewer: How often do you think you should have a preventive exam? Man #5: Um, I don’t have it. I don’t do it myself. I don’t. Interviewer: You don’t? You don’t go to the doctor and get a physical or a checkup? Man #5: No, never. Woman #3: Annually. Woman #4: Yeah, that probably would be the smart answer. Interviewer, to Man #5: Why? Man #5: Because I walk and I do different things and my health never bothers me. Interviewer: How often do you think you should have a preventive exam? Man #6: Mmm. You’re askin’ the wrong guy. I haven’t had insurance for 12 years. Woman #5: Preventive exam at least once a year. [Bell rings] Woman #6: At least once a year. [Bell rings] At least. preventive exam [pri-ven-tive ig-zam] -Preventive exams should be had once a year – they help identify and prevent disease. Flu shots and Pap smears are examples of preventive care.
